Role Overview:
We now have an exciting opportunity for a Geotechnical Lead to join our team within the Design and Construction Management Department, based in Ruthin.
Key Responsibilities:
Tender Support: Manage geotechnical reviews and assessments for tenders.
Analyse geotechnical data provided during the tender process and identify key risks.
Advise on additional ground investigations (GI) and manage specialist consultants to ensure optimal solutions are selected.
Contribute to mix design for stabilisation, and support the selection of plant and techniques (ripping, stabilisation, blasting, etc.).
Review and advise on temporary works, including retaining structures, working platforms, and haul roads.
Assess and classify materials, identify potential borrow pits, and ensure pricing aligns with material specialisms.
Promote value engineering by providing alternative solutions for both temporary and permanent works, including retaining walls and piling.
Produce specialist text for tender submissions and technical documents.
Live Project Support: Conduct safety reviews for quarry operations and oversee material classifications.
Support stabilisation mix design and testing on live sites.
Manage relationships with external consultants.
Bid Support and Management: Assist with design management during pre-construction phases, reviewing technical submissions and quality statements.
Work with bid teams to ensure design programmes are in line with the employer's requirements and contractual obligations.
Oversee the selection and briefing of design teams for significant projects.
Coordinate the flow of information between departments to support the development of bids, including ensuring all technical queries are resolved.
Track and manage risks during the bid process, ensuring commercial and technical risks are highlighted.
Design Management: Lead geotechnical design processes, ensuring timely delivery of design information to clients and internal teams.
Scrutinise sub-consultant designs and assumptions for Design & Build contracts, providing technical challenges and verifications.
Identify and implement value engineering opportunities during bid and construction phases.
Review and approve temporary works designs for all company projects.
Ensure geotechnical activities align with company quality assurance procedures, updating them as necessary.
Experience and Qualifications:
Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related discipline.
Proven experience in a geotechnical or design management role within a civil engineering environment.
Proficiency in Microsoft Project is essential; P6 Primavera experience is desirable.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
A proactive approach with the confidence to engage with a range of stakeholders and build strong working relationships.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
Ideally, a current CSCS card holder.
